HENNESSY AT BODY & SOUL
Long-time supporter of Irish cultural talent, Hennessy arrives at Body & Soul, the ground-breaking music, arts and wellness festival, with a new collaboration in 2019. For the first time ever on Body & Soul's Midnight Circus Stage on Friday June 21st, Hennessy present a line-up that has been carefully crafted by leading DJ and producer Adam Fogarty, aka Mathman. Hennessy also bring a weekend of auditory indulgence to Body & Soul with the Hennessy Sound Lounge.
Taking to Body & Soul's Midnight Circus stage, Hennessy presents, Manchester hip-hop songstress IAMDDB with her heady mix of hip-hop, pounding trap and silky Afro jazz; genre-defying rapper and BBC Sound 2019 winner Octavian; multi-Award winning South London female rapper Miss Banks; Dublin hip-hop artist and international rising star Jafaris; leading figures in the new wave of exciting Irish urban music MangoXMathman; and West Belfast trio KNEECAP, who have been garnering recent critical acclaim, will rap as Gaeilge.
Commenting on his curation of the Hennessy and Body & Soul presents the Midnight Circus stage, Mathman said: “Over the last number of decades, Hennessy with its own rich traditions, has always supported Irish talent in music, arts and culture, and it’s a brand synonymous with hip hop music. It’s for these reasons I’m honoured and extremely excited to collaborate with Hennessy and Body & Soul to curate the Midnight Circus Stage on the Friday night this year. Their support of urban music means our incredible Irish talent can stand side-by-side with its international counterparts all on one line-up. I'm proud to say that exactly half of our stage is made up of Irish acts, which shows the strength of talent this country has to offer. The other 50% is made up of some of the most exciting, eclectic and sought after artists in the game right now, both male and female. From beginning to end, the night will be an artistically rich experience celebrating Irish and international talent, and in the truest essence of hip hop – a raucous party.”
By day, music lovers at the Hennessy Sound Lounge, curated by Hen’s Teeth, can enjoy an exploration of the musical tastes of eight dedicated vinyl collectors who will dig into their collections and take guests through a personally curated playlist of the tracks they love and are inspired by. By night a slew of amazing Irish and international DJs will keep you on your feet into the early hours. All played on a custom crafted sound system created by Toby Hatchett.
Returning once again to host the Hennessy Sound Lounge will be acclaimed DJ Sally Cinnamon, who this year will be joined by new host Eddie Otchere, the British-Ghanaian artist best known for his photos of the seminal rappers and DJs of the mid 1990s and early noughties, including Biggie Smalls, Blackstar (Mos Def & Thalib Kweli), Est’elle and Goldie. Music lovers can sit back and relax with a Hennessy cocktail while they enjoy a journey of musical exploration with collectors including Richie Egan, Mathman, Saint Sister, STANO, Fish Go Deep, Mr Saturday Night, Carrie Colliton and Body & Soul Festival Director Avril Stanley and Music Booker Jenny Wren.
By night then, the Hennessy Sound Lounge transforms into the ultimate club under the stars with Irish and international DJs taking festival goers on a sonic odyssey and sending hands soaring into the Ballinlough night sky. DJs playing over the weekend include Fish Go Deep, Mr Saturday Night, Sassy J, Vic Crezée, Colm K aka Sunday Times, Donna Leake, Sim Simma Soundsystem, Move Slow Records, Aoife O’Neill, Mathman, Hang Dai Soundsystem, Cian Murphy, Eddie Otchere, and Sally Cinnamon and pals.
